Election, notices. EAST COAST ELECTION. T DESIRE to thank the Electors who so kindly gave me a Block Vote for Tongoio. The total majority for me is 243. SAMUEL LOCKE. TO THE ELECTORS OF HAWKE'S BAY. /"I ENTLEMEN,--Th. Result of the Poll has restored'me again to "actiA'e political life. No Avords of mine can sufficiently express the debt of gratitude 16 we and acknoAVledge to my many Friends, through whose unsolicited and indefatigable exertions my election is mainly due. To that large portion of my Constituents, the " Working Men," I wish to say the proofs you have given me of your belief in my declarations of desire to labor impartially for the interests of all will stimulate me to study how to promote yourwelfare, and to thoroughly merit the confidence you have so unmistakably reposed in me. To my Opponents I say again, as I have said before, that as a result of my conduct of the Contest, although you opposed me politically, I hope but few entertain other, than kindly feelings for me personally, and that whenever I can be useful to you in any way you will come to me with the full assurance that it will be my pleasure, as well as my duty, to sorve 3 r ou. I am, Gentlemen, Yours faithfully, W. R. RUSSELL. TO THE ELECTORS OF HAWKE'S . BAY COUNTY. GENTLEMEN,— I cannot thank you for the result of the poll_, but to tho 185 independent and progressive electors who voted for mo I say "I thank you most sincerely, and hope at the next election your numbers will be considerably increased." To my opponents, both candidates and electors, I say, "I hope political differences will not make personal enemies." Hundreds of men who would have supported me are not on the roll. It is their duty to have their names placed there at once, so as to be prepared for the future. I have had to struggle against fearful odds, but ne\'erthelcss I have tried to do my duty, and'l hope to do it again. Though personally I have been defeated, the ideas AAdiich I have advocated are not defeated, but will ultimately prevail. Timo is on our side. If I have, caused the petrified inhabitants of this stagnant district to think upon : the all-important "Land Question," I will, though vanquished, haveachieved a triumph, and my voice Avill not have been raised in vain, for tho good will grow and the truth will flow on for ever.
