INQUEST.

Dunedin, This day.

At the inquest on the child Sterling the evidence of the mother was she gave the child to her six-year-old daughter to nurse. She Avent out to' clean a shed in the back yard, and on her return, after an absence of ten minutes, she found the baby's clothes on fire and nearly all burnt. She drossed the child's burn, but medical advice was not obtained. The jury returned an open verdict, and, acting on their recommendation, the Coroner cautioned the mother for her inhumane motherly conduct, informing her that had there been much more evidence there Avould probably have been a verdict of manslaughter against her.
