May 28. Statements have been received here to the effect that a new Mahdi has appeared in the Darfour country. He has, it is said, secured the allegiance of several tribes, and fought a pitched battle with the followers of Mohammed Ahmet, the reputed Mahdi, in which the latter was defeated with heavy loss.
