May 26. In connection with the projected European Conference it is now asserted that England has accepted the principle of European control of Egyptian finances, and is now discussing with France the question of the duration of British occupation.

(Received May 27, 4.15 p.m.) The Australian cricketers played a match to-day at Birmingham against an eleven of the midland Counties. The latter went in first and scored 82, the bowling of Spofforth doing great execution, and there was a bumpy wicket. The Australians went in, but only succeeded in putting together 76 runs, or 6 behind their opponents. The latter in the second innings were all disposed for 26, leaving the Australians 33 to get to win. They obtained the required number with the loss of six wickets, thus winning the match by four wickets. The weather was fine, and there was a good attendance of spectators, (Received May 28, 1.5 a.m.) At the cricket match at Birmingham today Spofforth, in the first innings, took six wickets for 30 runs, and in the second innings secured seven wickets for 3 runs.
