Nelson, This day. At the University Senate yesterday Mr Fitchett laid on the table the minutes of the Convocation and of the committee appointed to consider them. On the motion of Professor Shaud certain alterations were made in tho statute relating to senior scholarships. On the motion of Professor Brown it was resolved that institutions established by the Board of any affiliated university, or placed under the government of such a Board, and no new department or branch of such an institution, is by such connection affiliated totheUmversitv^^^^^^^^^^^^^— FIRES. Nelson, This day. A large bush fire which destroyed three houses, a large quantity of stock, and 100 acres of valuable bush, is reported from Happy Valley. Balcxutiia, This day. A ten-roomed house occupied as a private school was burned down yesterday afternoon. The origin is believed to be ashes thrown out behind the kitchen. The building was the property of Mr Aspinall, solicitor, Temuka. It is believed to have been insured for £GOO. The furniture, which was mostly saved, was insured in the Norwich Union office for £200._ A house of five rooms adjoining, belonging to the county clerk, caught fire and was burned down. It was insured for £250 in the Norwich Union office, and for £50 in the Colonial office. The furniture and effects were saved. They were insured in various offices for £300.
