BENEVOLENCE IN WELLINGTON.

Wellington, This day

At tho annual meeting of the Wellington Benevolent Society, held yesterday, it was stated that during the year 140 families had been assisted. This included 367 children aud 31 men. At present there are 50 cases boarded out. During tho year 13 wives, with 43 children, have been deserted by their husbands. The total received from all sources is £2329, aud the expenditure £2172. It was stated that the proportion of money spent in relieving the poor of Wellington was smaller than in other town in New Zealand.
