THE RECREATION GROUND.
[To the Editor ok the Daily Telegraph.] Sir,— Upon visitiug the Napier Recreation Ground a few days ago I was annoyed to see it being allowed to go to ruin through the want of a'little attention.' 'I 'noticed v hat, immediately bund"the cricket pitch. the ground is powdered into dust for want p| Tilje ftppljcatiQn of a little -water in dry weather, although tho water is laid on, and a hoso long enough to reach tho portions I refer to lying ou tho ground. The'grass has been allowed to die out on the greater portion of the cricket pitch from the same cause. Surely it would be better for the company to get a small boy at the trifling remuneration of half-a-crown per week or thereabouts to attend in tho evenings: and water that portion of the ground within roach of tho hose. Being a shareholder I ■©atutfaUyioit aaodyed at seoing a ground
obtained with so much difficulty and expense going to ruin. I certainly thought the directors appointed would havo considered it their duty to see the company s property properly looked alter. It the shareholders do not expect any other return for their money, they may reasonably expect the satisfaction of seeing the ground maintained in an efficient state for the purposes it was intended for.—l am, kc, A Shareholder.
