The licensing committee election in Christchurch north-east was another defeat for the temperance men. At the election of tho Ly ttelton Licensing Bench yesterday Messrs J. R. Webb, J. S. Gullivier, J. Jenkins, J. B. Milson, and A. W. Pareons were returned. The first three ropresent tho temperance interest. In the Avon district the temperance party also had the best of it.
