THE CONGREGATIONAL UNION.

The Council of the Congregational Union met yesterday. On the motion of Dr Roseby it was resolved, ' ' That this Union expresses its heart}' interest in the efforts that arc being put forward on behalf of the temperance movement, and its satisfactirn that the existing legislation gives to the people themselves the control of the publichouse traffic." The chairman, Dr Roseby, and tho Rev. Mr West were requested to prepare a manual of congregational principles for the information of the younger members of the church. On the motion of Dr Roseby it was resolved, "That this Union expresses its gratitude to the Colonial Missionary Society in England for the sum of £3150 contributed towards the extension of Congregationalism in New Zealand." The Union was then closed by singing the Doxology. The next meeting is to be held in Auckland in January, 1885.
