The statistics of crime iv tho Canterbury district show that thero were 2680 offences reported in 1883, a decrease of 317 from the previous year. The number of apprehensions was 251G, a decrease of 198 ; committed for trial, 40, a decrease of 14 : summarily convicted, 2252, a decrease of 127 ; discharged, 22-1, a decrease of 57.
