A SHEEP DIP.

[To tiie Editor of tiie Daily Telegraph.] Sir, —Immense efforts are being made just now to push Tomlinson and Hayward's sheep dip in tho market. I believe Mr Hay ward himself has come all the way from England to oxtol the virtues of his goods. Tho sheep dip business is something liko that of life assurance ; in puffing- up ono article you must cry down all others. Now, out of tho numerous dips favorably known to farmers I am not aware that Tomlinson and Hayward's takes top rank in England. If it did I should think that firm would have quite enough to do to supply orders without running away from the largest sheep owning country in the world to come to the colonies. In the Australasian of the 12th instant there is a letter signed " Ercildown Jackaroo," which I would advise sheep owners to peruse before laying in a heavy supply of dip material. Some years ago I successfully cured a scabby flock with tobacco and spirits of tar, and I know nothing better than, tobacco for ticks, &c. All sheep improve in condition, and consequently their fleece improves in density, length, and lustro when they are freed from the irritation caused by parasites, and any dip that willf_kill parasites may bo said to improve the wool. There is quackery in all things. What is wanted is a dip that will honestly peiform what it professes to do.— I am, Sec, Loxowool. Hastings, January 29, 1881.
