THE RABBITS.
[To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] Sin, —Somo months ago a great fuss was made about tho threatened invasion of the rabbits from tho Southern portion of tho province. I thought at the time, from tho statements made, and the number of telegrams, letters, leaders, and locals written, that ere this the Napier Rifle Volunteers would have been ordered out to defend tho Heretaunga Plains from destruction, but latterly we have heard nothing about them. In Australia returns arc sent in weekly to head-quarters, and published for general information, giving tho number of rabbits destroyed, the means of destruction, number of men employed, &c, but so far I havo seen no such returns published here. Has any action been taken, or did the resolutions passed in tho Agricultaral and Pastoral Society's Rooms at Napier have tho effect of driving the rabbits out of tho province ? Hoping someone Avho knows will enlighten your readers iv the matter, —I am, &c, T. J. Ryan.
