The consecration of Dr. Alfred Barry to the Metropolitan Sec of Sydney, Nuw South Wales, took place at Westminster Abbey to-day. Thu ceremony was very largely attended both by tho clergy and laity, and all parts of the edifico wort! crowded. The failure of Messrs Alexander and Henry Brogdeu is attributed to the rejection of their appeal to the Government of New Zealand for tho liquidation of their claims in connection with colonial railway contracts, and to numerous minor failures in the iron trade.
(Received January 3, 1.10 a.m.) Canon Westcott, who preached the sennou at the consecration of Dr. Barry, in referring to tho ceremony, expatiated upon tho peculiar fitness of Dr Barry for the offko to wliich lie had been chosen.
