The consecration of Dr. Alfred Barry to the Metropolitan Sec of Sydney, Nuw South Wales, took place at Westminster Abbey to-day. Thu ceremony was very largely attended both by tho clergy and laity, and all parts of the edifico wort! crowded. The failure of Messrs Alexander and Henry Brogdeu is attributed to the rejection of their appeal to the Government of New Zealand for tho liquidation of their claims in connection with colonial railway contracts, and to numerous minor failures in the iron trade.

(Received January 3, 1.10 a.m.) Canon Westcott, who preached the sennou at the consecration of Dr. Barry, in referring to tho ceremony, expatiated upon tho peculiar fitness of Dr Barry for the offko to wliich lie had been chosen.

Great oxcitenient prevailed in Dromoro, County Down, Ireland, in consequonce of the Orango and Parnell meetings. The Orangemen, who numbered fully 20,000 men. attacked the Parnelito gathering, but the strong force of troops present prevented a serious collision betweon the two factions.
