There were five witnesses examined for the prosecution, the evidenco being circumstantial and to tho effect that cayenne pepper had been put under the doors and windows of tho achool-houso nt Humpdcn whilst a concert was being held there on tho 20th ultimo. The popper had been sprinkled amongst cotton waste and set fire to, the fumes of which caused some ladies and children to be taken ill and carried out. The evidenco connecting defendants was to the effect that they were seen outside the building and had cleared out after the occurrence. "Mr Guy took a technical objection to tho information, and also examined tho two defendants on thoir own behalf, who denied having committed the oifenco. The Magistrate dismissed thecaso, on the grounds that there was not sufficient evidence to convict them. CIVIL CASES. Miller and Potts v. Alfred J. James.— Claim £13 10s on a P.N Adjoivmod, on application of plaintiffs, to 16th January. Todd v. Duncan.—Judgment summons for £8 Is Gd. Adjourned till the lGtk January.
