In consequence of the general outcry raised by the Europeans in India against the provisions of Ilbert's Criminal Jurisdiction Bill, subjecting Euopeans in country districts to the jurisdiction of native magistrates, the Council of the Governor-General of India have agreed to a compromise, audit lias been decided that, Europeans who may be tried before native magistrates shall bo entitled to a jury in whiclithp countrymen of tho accused arein a majority.
