The usual meeting was held to-day. Present: Mr J. D, Ormond (in tho chair), Rev. D. Sidey, Captain Russell, Messrs S. Locke, T. White, D. Guy, J. N. Williams, and R. Harding. CORRESPONDENCE. From EducationDcpartment, acknowledging receipt of letter dated 21st nltimo. A reply would bo sent to tho Board as soon as the Department were in a position to do so. From Danevirke, applying for enlargement of teacher's residence.—Deferred. From Ashley-Clinton, Applying for £10 for paintimr school.—Deferred. From Clivc School Committee, announcing Mr Edward Bissoll had been appointed head master.—Confirmed. . From Fraserton, applying for £G 10s for quarter's rent of schbolmistress'e cottage.— Board could not comply, as no authority had been Efiven." : ; From Knikora, askingfor £25 for works urgcntlv needed for shed, pipes, and a chimney for tho master's house.—Deferred. From Gisborne, asking leave of absence till the end of March for Mr Bull to visit Australia, also asking assistance in tho matter of cleaning the school, which now costs £07 per annum.—The former request was granted, but nothing could bo done in the matter.of the cleaning. Fi'om Napier, asking that the interior of tho school might bo distempered.—Board unable to carry out the work, there being no funds available. ■ From No.pier, asking for a grant of £.30 4 to enable the water rates and advertising . accounts to be paid.—Board undertook tho liability for water rates, but declined to have anything to do with tho advertising. From Norsewood, asking for various works to he carried out, including draining and distempering.—No funds available. From Mongatu, asking that the boundaries he accepted.—No information having been received from the Woodvillo district, no action could be taken in the matter. From Patnng-ata, asking , that tho district be extended so as to include within its. boundaries the Oero Road Board district.— The Committee's request was approved, and it was agreed that tho boundaries should bogazetted accordingly. From Taradale, informing the Board of' tho appointment of Mr Pendval Bear to tho head mastership.—Appointment confirmed a From Taradale, asking Master Kirkpatrick's appointment as pupil teacher to date from Ist November, 1883.—N0 alteration could be made in the appointment of Ktricpatrick as a candidate for a pupil teachership. From Woodville, asking for an addition to the playground. —Board unable to mako any further recommendation. From Ivaikora, notifying Miss Soley's resignation.— ; Action confirmed. AXNUAL RETIHEMENT OF MEJIHERS. The Rev. D. Sidey and Messrs R. Harding and W. White retire in March next as members of the Board, each of whom is, however, eligible for re-election. NOTICE OF MOTION. Mr Guy gavo notice that at tho next meeting of the Board ho would move, " That all teachers holding conditional or provisional certificates be notified that unless they qualify themselves within tho period mentioned in Rule 15 of the regulations made under the Education Act their services will be dispensed with, and that all teachers in charge of schools with an average attendance of 100 bo requested to hold certificates of a status not lowor than, E.
