AND STILL THE SIRE OF THE SEASON. -a- ,~~-3f, The Thoroughbred —Horse— "pOHOKUEA. roiiOKURA by Pacific, out of Villctte (by Young Plover, out of Ada—Young Plover by /"Ether) ; Pacific by Flatcateher, dam Disagreeable by Agreeable—her dam by Sam, out of Morel by Sorcerer. Flatcateher by Touchstone, out "of Decoy by Filho da Puta, Finesse by Peruvian, Viscount by John Bull, sister to Skyscraper by Highflyer. Touchstone by Camel, Banter by Master Henry, Boadicea by Alexander, Brunette by Amaranthus—Mayfly by Matchem—Camel by Whalebone, out of Selim mare—Maiden by Sir Peter—Phenomenon. Pacific Avas imported from England, and got the celebrated performers Orlando, Nebula, Gleugany, Satellite (tho fastest horse foaled in the" Southern Ilcmisphere), Moonshine, Moss Rose, Dundee, Resolution, Hailstorm, and Rangipo. Pohokura is also fortunate on the dam's side, for Young Plover, tho sire of Poliokura's dam, Avas not only a first-class racehorse, but Avas most successful at the stud, as all his progeny Avcro clippers under heavy Avcights—be the distance six furlongs or three "miles. Pohokura's dam Avas half-sister to that grand mare Deception, the best mare that ever trod the Ncav Zealand turf—she ran fifth in the Champion Race in Sydney, in 1800, in a large field, three days after landing from New Zealand, Villctte (dam of Pohokura) raced Avith great success as a three-year-old, but Avas early put to the stud, and became the dam of several Avell-known Avinners. Pohokura promised to bo a great performer, both on the flat and over fences, but his racing career Avas unfortunately cut short by an accident Avhich, though it deprives the turf of Avliat bid fair to be one of the grandest performers in tho colony, Avill prove a boon to breeders desirous of producing racers, steeplechasers, or excellent Avoight-carrying hacks. He is a beautiful dark-brown (almost black) Avitb black points, 8 years, stands 15 hands 3i inches high, his "whole contour being handsome, powerful, and racing-like, and in his A'cins runs blood of the most patrician quality, tracing back to the grand Touchstone fountain, whose deserved praise avo should never cease to sing. " Touchstone —the renoAvned "founder of a lino of kings"—Avho avus directly descended on both sides by Eclipse —through Whalebone, Waxy, and Tot-S-os on the side of his sire (Camel), and through Master Henry, Orvillc, Beningbrough, and King Fergus on the side of his dam (Bantor), thus tracing back in direct linos to both tho Darlcy and Godolphin Barbs. Tho Avinnings of the stock of his great progenitors, Eclipse and Emilus, Avcrc surpassed by Touchstone. In twenty years, between IS-11 and 1860, he got 323 Avinners of upwards of 700 races." DERBY.
