THE GOVERNOR AT NEW PLYMOUTH.

New Plymouth, This day.

The Governor arrived at noon on Saturday, and landed at tho breakwater. A large number of people were present. An address was presented by the Chairman of the Harbor Board, and in reply tho Governor said he had landed on many breakwaters, but never had seen such admirable arrangements as those ho had just experienced. Ho observed that the work had a substantial appearance, which ho had not expected to see. Ho had no conception it was sur:h a creditable, work. During the last thirtyone years he might say that he had lived among , breakwaters, and he had been in the habit of seeing blocks made and placed in position in breakwaters of various descriptions, and therefore they might naturally suppose that he fully understood a work of that class. His Excellency then drove into town, when a large number of country settlers were assembled. He passed through two triumphal arches to the Government buildings, where nearly 1000 children wore gathered, and they sang the National Anthem. The Borough Council, _ and County Council, and the Friendly Societies also presented addresses In reply his Excellency said ho had never been more enthusiast icallv received than on that day.
