September 25. Exeter Hall is arranging a great reception for the Rev. Mr Shaw, tho Madagascar missionary, on his return on Thursday. He is advised to claim £10,000 compensation for his imprisonment by French authorities. The English Press generally urges a firm attitude towards Franco in regard to Madagascar. The family of the late James Carey have arrived in London, where the eldest son is required as a witness against O'Donnell. A railway accident, involving _ heavy casualties, is reported from Roumania. September 26. The Austral inquiry still continues. The evidence given so far goes to prove that there was no fault in the construction of tho vessel, and that the mishap was due to neglect on the part of her officers. Five towns in tho County of Tipporary aro gazetted as requiring additional constables for the preservation of peace. At New York, a lunatic, an Irishman, fired a revolver within the British consulate. No one was injured, and tho madman was arrested.
