ACCIDENTS.—PLUCKY RESCUE.
Auckland, This day. ' Two somewhat serious accidents occurred here yesterday. A man namod Samuel Smith Avas precipitated to the ground by the fall of some scaffolding, and sustained severe injuries, his left arm being fractured in two places. In tho other case a boot and shoe manufacturer named Matthew Moore got one of his hands badly crushed in a leather-cutting press. InvercarGill, This clay. Yesterday some children were playing at high water' near Puri Creek, Clyde-street, behind tho Bank of Ncav Zealand. Among them' was a little ghi, a daughter of Mr J. C. Wild, of the London Hotel. She avus in chargo of a baby and perambulator. The vehicle got away from the girl ancl ran over the bank into the creek, and the child Avas at the risk of being diwned. The Rev, W". P> Fairclougli, Wesleyan clergyman, happened to pass and found a man trying to fish out the child and perambulator with a
walking stick. Thinking more urgent means were required, Mr Fairclough stripped off his coat and jumped into tho creek, speedily bringing the concern ashore at the expense of a thorough wetting. __________
