ACCIDENTS.
Auckland, This day. A railway guard named Crawford had a narrow escape from instantaneous death while shunting at Mercer station. His head got jammed between a waggon and a piece of timber. Ho was'removed,, to the hospital with his head badly cut. Gbeyjioutji, This day. An accident occurred yesterday at Riverview, near Ahaura, in tho claim of John Thomas and William Recce. While standing at the head of the claim the bank gave away, precipitating both sixty feet almost perpendicularly. Thomas was covered up. Recue, who escaped uninjured, obtained assistance. Thomas, when 'extricated, was found to be seriously crushed on tho head and back. He was brought dowji in a canoe to the hospital.
