August IS. The launch of a torpedo boat Avhich has been built for the Victorian Government took place at Crcswick to-day. Tho ceremony aviis performed by the Right Hon. H. AY. E. Childers, after Avhom the boat is named. In the House of Commons last night Mr Gladstone aviis questioned as to the intention of the Government regarding the future of Ncav Guinea. In reply the Premier stated that, as the Government refused to ratify the annexation of that island by Queensland, it Avas unnecessary to say anything about the future. The Government avus satisfied that thero aviis no fear of a claim to the island being made by any foreign poAver.
