COLONIAL LICENSED VICTUALLERS ASSOCIATION.

AVellinoton, This day. A meeting of licensed victuallers Avas held yesterday for the purpose of forming themselves into a AVellington Licensed Alctuallers' Trade Association. The Chairman explained that the object Avas a protection to the trade, and already 45 publicans had decided to become members. In the society Avhich it Avas proposed to form the mistakes of previous years would be avoided, and a more extensive basis than had hitherto existed Avould be laid down, so as to make the organisation something like those of Great Britain. In that country tho licensed victuallers had societies Avhich provided for the education of children, _ the maintenance of the indigent, the care of the poor, kc, and generally looked after the interests of the Trade. In the new society it was proposed to take a lesson from the failings in the past, and establish an association as strong as it Avas possible to make it. To do this it Avould be necessary to register the society under the Friendly Societies Act or the' Joint Stock Companies Act, Avhich would give it a legal standing and enable it tj sue in Courts of IaAV. The

proposal to form an association Avas carried, and a committee Avas formed to bring forAvard a report on various matters at a meeting to be held on Monday.
