ENGLISH MAIL ITEMS.

Auckland, This day.

In addition to the summary of 'Frisco mail news (which appears on our fourth page to-day) the following interesting items are to hand :—

The agricultural prospects in Great Britain arc bright. The crops are making rapid progress, and everything looks very encouraging, and a continuance of this favourable condition must materially augment the agricultural wealth of the country.

The Irishmen in tho House of Commons have had a little scene up among themselves, resulting in Mr McCoan seceding from the Parnellite party.

Sulicman Sami, who was proved to be responsible for the burning of Alexandria, was hanged on June 10. He died a thorough coward, though it came out in evidence that he looked on smoking his pipe while tho city was in flames. The interest taken in the passing of the Deceased Wife's Sister Bill has led to a general expectation that the final passage would be followed by the announcement of the bethrothal of the Princess to her brother-in-law, the Prince of Hesse.

At the last meeting of tho Colonial Institute the following New Zealand gentlemen were elected: —Messrs James Allan, George McLean, and John Reid. Tho marriage of Mary Shensa, the daughter of the Rev. Mr Fuisc, principal of Cuddesdon College, to the Rev. Mr Abraham, only son of Bishop of Wellington, was a very brilliant affair. An extraordinary meeting of the shareholders of the Shaw Savill and Albion Company will be held on Thursday, June 21, to consider a proposal to authorise a second issue of shares to tho extent of 20,000, thus increasing the capital by .£200,000, to enable the company to acquire steamers for the New Zealand trade. Probably in the first instance the company will only build two steamers.
