PARTICULARS OF ANGLO-FRENCH DIFFICULTY IN MADAGASCAR.

REPULSE OF THE lIOVAS,

THE SUEZ CANAL CONTRACT,

THE CONTEST FOR THE AVEXFORD

VACANCY.

LONDON,

July 1.5. French despatches from Tamatave dated 6th July, arc entirely silent as to tho reported insults to the British authorities and the officers of tho Dryad. Two night attacks have been made by the Hovas, who have been repulsed with serious loss. The French naval authorities at Tamatave, on 26th June, boarded Messrs Currio's mail steamer Tynemouth Castle, placed sentries on various positions on board, and overhauled the mails. Tho captain alone was alloAved to land at Madagascar, and tho cargo and passengers had to be taken on to Mauritius. Mr Childors, Chancellor of the Exchequer, replying to a deputation, stated that the agreement made with Count de Lesscps for a second Suez Canal was the best obtainable. It is considered probable that the Italian Government will consent to tho landing of the mails at Brindisi. The New Zealand Shipping Company is increasing its capital by a quarter of a million. July 16. Baron De Lesscps threatens that, unless somo decision is come to Avith respect to the second canal across Suez, ho will appeal to the French to resist further concessions. Mr Childcrs, Chancellor of the Exchoquer, will resign if the agreement is rejected. Tamatave has been proclaimed a French town, and the various Consuls there have been forbidden the hoist the flag- of the country they represent. The captain of 11.M.5. Dryad, becoming irritated at the conduct of the French Admiral, is sending a body of marines ashore to guard the Consulate, and boats to assist the fugitives. The Governor of Mauritius is also sending a steamer to Tamatave to bring away any fugith'cs that may caro to leave. The Liberals and Tories Avill support the nomination of the O'Connor Don for the vacancy of Wexford.
