MAN ATTEMPTS SUICIDE BY THROWING HIMSELF IN FRONT OF A TRAIN.
Ixvercrgill, This day
When the Dunedin express had gone a short distance out of town to-day a man named Charles Lewis, said to be of unsound mind, threw himself across the line as the train approached. Every effort was made to stop the engine, but Lewis was caught by the cowcatcher and dragged a considerable distance. He was conveyed to the hospital, where it was found he had received a contused wound in the back of the neck, which is not considered dangerous.
