Seveu cases were brought before the Court yestorday, but only one conviction was obtained. In the other cases the Grand Jury either found no bill or tho common jury acquitted tho accused. The prisoner convicted was George M'Kay, for forgery. He was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. CnRisTCHURCii, This day. In the' Supreme Court yesterday Harry Jackson, for shooting at John Deans, was sentenced to fourteen years' penal servitude. The bills against Francis S. Riggs (larceny), Harriet Downey (arson), and Charles Edward Dudley (embezzlement), were thrown out by the Grand Jury. Dunedin, This day.

At the Supremo Court yesterday the most important case in which no truo bill was found was that of George Clarke, charged with embezzlement of funds of the Vincent County. This is the individual who was brought back from Melbourne. A true bill was found against Frederick AVain and his wife for manslaughter. The principal cases dealt with were those of Charles A r ickers, charged with escaping from tho gaol, and of John Jones, .charged with forgery. Vickors pleaded that having a wife and family in Dunedin ho was harassed by tho knowledge of their destitute circumstances, and the warder not looking he simply walked away. The gaoler gave Vickors a good character. His Honor sentenced him to twelvemonths' imprisonment. John Jonos, 62 years old, pleaded guilty to three charges of forgery. The prisoner was suffering from paralysis, and tho Crown Prosecutor said very likely ho had committed the offence in order to get into gaol, where ho had been before for perjury, larceny, and forgery. The prisoner was sentenced to three years' imprisonment.
