ACCIDENTS AND CASUALTIES.
Inveecargill, This day. AVhen the train from Invercargill to Riverton was approaching the latter place last night the driver noticed a dark object in front of the engine, and then saw a hat blown across the track. The engine was stopped, and it was found that a man named Jeremiah Regan had been caught by the cowcatcher and carried two hundred yards. On being taken to the Riverton Hospital Regan's scull was found to be severely lacerated ; the left arm was broken in two places, the back bruised, and he had also sustained concussion of the brain. Regan was insensible when admitted, and continues so. Auckland, This day. Mr L. W. Bush, theatrical agent, said to be the husband of Madame Cora, illusionist was found dead in his bed yesterday morning at the Governor Browne Hotel. Tho deceased was of intemperate habits. A verdict of death from apoplexy was returned at the inquest. Ho arrived by the AVaihora from Sydney. Thames, This day. C. Bignall, aged 22, the son of a wellknown settler at Turua, was drowned yesterday morning in the Thames river. He was getting a steam launch ready to bring a party to the Thames, when it is supposed that he slipped and was stunned. He was a good swimmer and a great favorite, and much sympathy for his family is expressed. Ciiristciiurch, This day. The girl Humphreys, who was knocked down by a runaway horse on Tuesday last, is still unconscious and in a critical state. KU3IARA, This day. A man named Raby, whilst out prospectting on Wednesday, fell down an abandoned shaft 52 feet. Ho escaped with a sprained wrist. Dunedin, This day. A butcher at Goro mot with a serious accident yesterday. Ho was riding, and in stooping from the saddle to open a gate a butcher's knife ran four inches into his side. It is not known whether the injury will be fatal.
