"Bluff, This day. Early on Wednesday signals were made from Dog Island lighthouse that medical assistance was required, as the principal litrhtkeepur was dying. The pilot crewtook Dr. Chass, Sergt. Mcikle, and a Customs officer across, and found the lightkeeper Clark dead. It appears that James Clark, the principal lightkeeper, went up the tower at I a.m. that day to relieve "W. Collie. Collie then went home. Mrs Clark went out at 7.30 and noticed the light still burning, although it was daylight. Not seeing her husband she went up the tower, but could not find him. On coming down she called Collie, and he, accompaned by Frost and assistant-keeper Harper, searched outside the tower without success, but on opening the door inside the tower at the basement they discovered the body of Clark, quite dead, "in the recess where the lamp weights are suspended. The last entry on of the slate in the tower shows 0.20, and it is supposed that the deceased had overbalanced himself while adjusting the lamp weights and had fallen down the centre of the tower, about 70ft.
