SOUTH PACIFIC PETROLEUM COMPANY.
GiSBOitJJE, This day. Latest roports received from the scene of operations continue encouraging. Nothing' authentic has been heard as to the depth the bore has proceeded since Tuesday, when it was down 210 feet, and all going well. It is the belief of several interested that the fountain will bo tapped in a very short time, and the public are very sanguine as to the future of Poverty Bay. The Herald protests against the directors in Christ - church prohibiting the local manager of the Southern Cross Petroleum Company from furnishing reliable information of tho company's operations to Ihe local press for the information of the Poverty Bay shareholders. Latest reports from reliable visitors to the Avorks state that an energetic effort is being , made by Mr Stubbs to ascertain the depth and extent of tho paraffin deposit. This is very commendable, as no systematic effort in this direction has yet been made. Would it not be more beneficial in the interests of tho company to authorise the general manager to give a, uhort report of progress when practicable, rather than having , the public to rely on chance reports not authenticated ':
