A boy aged sixteen months, the son of Mr Duncan Hepburn, who is a candidate for the Borough Council, was left alone yesterday for five minutes by its mother, who had been nursing it. The chlidmade its way into the garden, the gate of which was accidentally left open, and was drowned in a drain containing a current of six inches of water. ,„, . , Thames, This day. Hone Werahiko, one of the first prospectors of Tc Aroha, died in the hospital on Monday. The opening of the goldtieids in the northern district was greatly due to his elforts. Deceased was well known and liked. Auckland, Thin day. Major Wilson, of Waikato, an old settler, died yesterday from cancer of the jaw,
having sunk under an operation for its removal.
