Invekcaegill, This day. ■\Vhilo uncoupling a'wagon which was being shunted on to the Buxton siding on the northern line on Saturday a young man named John Tomlinson got thrown down in such a way that a boot was torn off from one foot, and one of his knees was severely jammed. The injury, on examination at the hospital, was found to be severe, the joint being laid open and much lacerated. The guard, being at the time engaged at the pointslon the opposite side of thelineso as to let the truck through, could not see what Tomlinson was doing, and was unaware of the accident in tinie to take steps to prevent it. Yesterday afternoon it was foUndncccssaiy to amputate the leg at the thigh,' And Tomlinson, whose condition was critical from the first, gradually sank, and died last night. An inquest is probable. Auckland, This day. James Thompson lias been found dead in a survey camp at "Wain, Coromandel. It is believed the cause of death was heart disease. ' At the inquest on the body of Thomas Hamilton, killed by a fall of earth at the Sugar Company's works, a verdict of accidental death was returned. Deceased had
just left the Parnell drainage works, where Bcglcy was killod by a fall of earth, as ho regarded tho work there as dangerous. New Plymouth, This day. The body of Matthew Clough, who was drowned a week ago whilst crossing the Mongonui river, was recoA'crcd on Sunday morning. Two clivers were engaged in the work, which was rendered extremely dangerous in consequence of the quicksands. At the inquest a verdict of accidentally drowned was returned.
