Invercargill, AA r educsday. AVil i; ain Clegg, convicted of an unnatural offence, Avas sentenced to two years' imprisonment. The charges against Massey, late Toavii Clerk of Dunedin, and his wife, for stealing aud disposing of Avatcnvorks debentures Avcrc gone into. Mr Stout prosecuted, and Messrs Chapman and Fitchett defended. After the openingaddrcssfor the prosecution, Detective Henderson, Mr Gibson (the present Town Clerk), Mr Frascr, Mr Keith Ramsay, Mr H. S. Fish, and Mr Jamieson Avere examined. Mr Gibson avus subjected to a long examination, but nothing of great importance avus adduced. The object of the defence seems to be to show that it avus possible that some other persons than Massey had stolen the debenture from the oflio es of the Corporation of Dunedin. The proceedings were very uninteresting, and nothing was elicited further than came, out at the Police Court. The accused held little communication Avith their counsel.
