The reported action of the Queensland Government in taking possession of Noav Guinea has caused great annoyance to a large and influential party in the Houso of Commons, and strong pressure is being brought to bear upon the Government to induce it to repudiate the action of Governor Sir Arthur Kennedy. Tho Times adnures the decision of the Queensland Government in annexing New Guinea, though it is certain to provoke considerable discussion in the House ot Commons. Tho Press generally disapproves of the annexation. The Standard states that England has annexed large tracts of country in the vicinity of Siberia. A general rebellion has broken out in Ashantee. Sir Stafford Northcote has unveiled the statue erected to the memory of the late Lord Beaconsfiold. Gallagher, one of the men in custody for being- m° unlawful possession of explosives, has hinted that it is intended to destroy AVestminster Bridge and Scotland Yard with dynamite. The story told by a telegraph clerk of his having been kidnapped by Fenians is distrusted, and the clerk has been suspended. The Arabs are reported to be fighting amongst themselves in the A'icinity of Aden. Troops have been despatched to restore order. H.M.S. Dragon has been detained at Aden. The Government has announced in the House of Commons its intention to appoint a Permanent Committee of Agriculture, under tho presidency of the Right Hon. Mr Dodson.
