ANGLICAN CHURCH GENERAL SYNOD.

The Synod resumed its sittings in St. John's school-room last afternoon, the Primate presiding: — Archdeacon Stock presented the report of the select committee on the establishment of a pension fund. The chief recommendations were: — (1.) That it is desirable to establish a general pension fund for the Ecclesiastical Province of Ncav Zealand; (2.) that all accrued funds of Diocesan Pension Funds be left to the credit of the dioceses, but that the increase of such funds should be limited to interest on capital or special donations; ('.].) that every parish should give one offertory yearly to -the funds ; (1.) that clergymen pay all surplus fees to the fund,' but if such fees amount to less than £G in any parish the deficiency be made good by the diocese ; (5.) that each clergyman pay .. per annum to the fund ; (G.) that on the retirement or death of any clergyman he or his representative.*-! be paid on au actuarial basis ; (7.) that the laity be invited to contribute to the fund. Air J. E. Parker presented tlie report of the committee appointed to consider how the cost of the Incorporation Bill introduced into Parliament last session should he defrayed. The committee recommended that .£57 17s 7d, unexpended balance of the leA-y made on the dioceses for the expenses of "the last Synod, be approgriatcd to that balance : the balance of £17-3 to be made up by a leA-y on the dioceses iv the folloAving proportion:— Dunedin, ..50 ; Auckland and Waiapu, £30 each ; the other dioceses £21 each. The Bishop of AVaiapu laid on the table the report of ths trustees of the Nairn Trust, which AA-as read. It shoAved receipts £510 3s, consisting of annual payment by Air C. J. Nairn, £500 ; balance at bank, £10 :_ The expenditure included stipend, Rev. F. Simcox, £250 : Bishop of AVaiapu, £50 ; donation to AVhite-road Church, Napier, £50: clergyman's stipend, bush settlements, £50; ditto, AVaipukurau, £50 ; ditto, AVaipaAva, £50; clerk's salary, £5 ; balance in the bank, £5 Os lid. A motion by the 3 .hop of Melanesia Avith respect to the baptism of polygimists .vas, after some discussion, withdraAvn. The Bishop of Melanesia moved—" That this Synod, at its first session after the death of Sir AVilliam Martin, desires to place on record its most grateful and lovingremembrance of the Avise counsel Avliich so materially assisted to lay the foundations of the Church in Ncav Zealand, and of that sympathy and help which Averc ahvays at the service of her members, and especially those belonging to the native Church. And tins Synod also desires to place ou record its estimate of the worth and service of the foilOAving members of Synod AAdio have passed to their rest:—The Rev. AVm. AVellington AVillcock, ALA., formerlyFclloav of Magdalene Coll., Cambridge, Aroluh. •o_ of Akaroa, and Canon of Christchurch ; the Rev. AVm. Pontiu Tanner, Incumbent of Invercargill; and Sir George Arncy, late Chief Justice of Ncav Zealand, and member for some years of the Standing Commission.'' —The motion .vas unanimously carried, the members of the Synod all standing.

On the motion of Archdeacon Govett, the SA-nod AA-ent into committee to consider the following recommendation by the Sessional Committee on Trusts : —" 1. That the Synod do approve of the temporary rcmoA.il of St. John's College to some situation nearer the Auckland University College, and do authorise the trustees to make" an application (if necessary) to the the Legislature to pass an Act cnipoAvering them to do so. 2. That, if practicable, all the governors of St. John's College be also trustees of the College and Grammar School estate." —The discussion ou the subject Avas interrupted by the G o'clock adjournment, 'On the resumption of business the bill to amend Statute 1 for organising the General Synod was read a third time aud passed. The hill to amend clause 4 of Statute 15 was reported with certain amendments, and the third reading- fixed for Thursday, as was also a bill " intended to remove doubts as to the status of the Missionary Bishop and Diocese of the Afelonesia iv relation to the General Synod."

The motion by the Bishop of Dunedin for the second reading- of a bill to extend the poAvers of the Standing Commission, and to constitute such commission the executive of tlie General Synod for the purpose of consenting to sales and exchanges of properties AA*hen the General Synod is not in session, was negatived ou a diA ision. The Synod then adjourned.
