THE ILLICIT STILL AT PALMERSTON NORTH.—THE CASE IN THE R.M. COURT.
Palmeuston North, This day. _ The case in reference to tin- illicit still came on for hearing at the Magistrate's Court this morning before Mr AVardand two J.P.'s. Mr Fitziierbert appeared for die Crown, and asked that the former information should be withdrawn, and he now proposed to charge the defendants in couples, namely, Jessop and Peck, Malcolm and Flyger, and Charles and George Peck. Mr" Shaw (for the Peck Brothers), Mr Hawkin (for Jessop and Peck), and Mr Evans (for Malcolm) objected, on the ground that the course of continuing to lay fresh information was irregular, and at present no defendants were before the Court. Unless they voluntarily surrendered to their informations, the cases could not be proceeded with. Mr Fitzhcrbcrt, after discussion, elected to issue summonses for 1"2 o'clock against the defendant in pairs, as lie had suggested.
