[from our oavn correspondent.] March 31st, 1883. A meeting of the Hastings Athenieiun committee Avas held yesterday, at which it was agreed to accept the tender of MiBennett to erect and finish the building for £251, subject to his agreeing to certain mimitne omitted from his specifications. Seeing that the good Avork is so far advanced, I think—in fact I have reason to hope—that more of our residents Avill now come foi-Avard to assist Avhat cannot help becoming a boon to our toAvnship. The English Church Avas very tastefully decorated ou Easter Sunday, aud the congregation present Avas the largest I have yet Avituessed in Hastings. A'arious questions are current as to Avhen the alterations arc to be inside, for Avhich a large sum of money Avas collected some time ago. I hear the potato crops suffered somewhat from last night's down pour. Certain parts of Hastings (under the County. Council jurisdiction) avus in great danger of being flooded this morning on account of the drain not carrying aAvay the storm, water efficaciously, but the sun bursting through the clouds soon dispelled our fears, as that luuminary dispelled the vapour and rain.
