Obituary—Captain Frederick Charles Standish, aged 50. The deceased Avas formerly Chief Commissioner of Police in A ie-
toria. An extensive fire hits occurred at Messrs Cuspo and Swinbourne's timber store, situate in Bourke street, near Goldsboro's avool warehouses, by Avhich a large stock of timber lues been completely destroyed.
Tho Government has received a communication from New Zealand to the effect that a Minister cannot attend tho proposed postal conference owing to the approaching Parlianientaiv session.
