DISTRICT COURT, TIMARU.
Timaru, This day
The cases acrainst the R\-a.rL family t-oin-ing on the prisoner's counsel applied for an
adjournment pending an appeal to the Supreme Court, to annul tho bankruptcy of Patrick Ryan on technical grounds, but His Honor Judge Ward held that public convenience was at stake, a number of witnesses being present from distances, and he suggested that all parties would be suited by trying the cases, and deferring the sentences pending the result of the appeal. The case of conspiracy against Ryan, his
wife, and daughter, was then proceeded with, and after hearing- the evidence the jury returned a A-erdict of guilty Avith regard to the daughter. Judge Ward pointed out that this amounted to a A-erdict of not guilty Avfth reference to all the three
prisoners, as husband and Avife could not conspire together. The accused were consequently all discharged.
