STRANDING OF THE BARQUE CONFERENCE.
Wellington, This day
Messrs Dransfiold's barque Conference, which arrived oil tho heads with a cargo of coal from Newcastle yesterday, met with a mishap while beating in. It appears that when abreast of tho Pinnacle tho wind baffled, causing the vessel to break off and miss stays, and before the crew could wear her round she struck the out-rocks of the reef, and remained fast. The steamer Kawatero went to her assistance at 0.30 this morning, and three hours later the Conference floated, and came up the harbor under tow. It is thought that she has received but little injury. After discharging cargo she will be placed on the slip. The Conference is an iron barque of 400 tons, and the hull, cargo, and freight are insured in the Union office for £4000.
