CORRESPONDENCE.

LANDING CARGO ON A HOLIDAY,

[To the Editor of the Daily Telec _;apii.] Sir, —Your issue of last evening contains a notice from the agent of the Union Company that "all cargo not taken away tomorroAV from the steamers Taiaroa and Southern Cross will be left on the Avharf at the risk and expenseof consignee, or if ]/>■/■/■■- f.rvl.te will be stored." Why if practicable r Has not the Harbour Board built sheds for the convenience of the public tost ore goods. The Association have agreed to close their shops on Thursday and Friday at 11 a.m., and, as the lighters generally do not commence discharging before 10 a.m., it Avill be impossible to cart the goods to town in time to find the shops open. 3Eost of the Spit merchants have agreed to close all day on Thursday and open on Friday, and I think it most arbitrary on the part of the Union Company to deprive the lightermen and store-men of their holiday, as the lighters arc not required before Saturday. I haA-e never seen such a notice as the above in a ILiAvke's Bay paper before, and trust in future, before proclaiming a holiday, the Association will ask permission from the agent of the Union Company. By kindly inserting this you AA'ill oblige— ■Storemax. 3larch 1-;, 18S3. [The above reached us too late for insertion in yesterday's issue.—Ed. D.T.]
