FOR THE NORTH, CENTRAL, AND SOUTH DISTRICTS OF THE BOROUGH OF NAPIER.
The newly-elected Committee for the three licensing districts of the Borough of Napier met at noon to-day. Present: Dr Spencer, Messrs J. D. Ormond, J. H. Coleman, and R. Price. On the motion of Dr Spencer, seconded by Mr Coleman, Mr Ormond was elected chairman of the Committee for the three districts. Inspector Scully's reports were laid on the table, and were read as follows :— North district. —Hotels : London, Commercial, Crown, Railway Terminus, and Shakespeare. Tho condition of the houses and premises was reported to be good, and the conduct of the houses during the past three months also good, with the exception of that of the Shakespeare Hotel. The characters of the persons frequenting the houses were good, and there were no objections. It was resolved that the proprietor of the Shakespeare Hotel be notified that it had been reported that the conduct of his house had not been satisfactory, and that he be accordingly cautioned that the Committee will further consider the matter at the next annual meeting. Central district. — Hotels : Occidental, Empire, Masonic, Criterion, Exchange, Provincial, Royal, and Clarendon. These were reported to be in good condition, well conducted, and no objections were made with respect to them. South district. — Hotels: Caledonian, Albion, Napier, Victoria, Star, and City Railway. The same report as for the Central district was presented. The Committee then adjourned.
