AUCKLAND.
This day. W. 0. Mulfield, a settler of Kaugiowhia, Waikato, fell from a dray yesterday, and the wheel passed over hi;, head, causing instantciiieous death. The American Consul's (Griffin's) report on the Auckland harbor has been translated into German, and appears in the Berlin Illustrated News. Mr Vesey Stewart purposes floating a company in London for the purpose of exporting frozen meat from the Bay of Plenty. A special meeting of the Auckland Presbytery was held yesterday to receive the resignation of the Rev, Dr. M'Leod, of North Shore. The proceedings were private. Dr. M'Leod applied also for the usual certificate given to retiring- ministers, but the Presbytery thought the request of the Rev. Doctor could not be complied with until the people of his charge and eontiTegatiou should have had an opportunity of being heard. Owners of property and some who have no property at all have been deluged with valuation notices from the Property Tax Commissioner, Wellington, and notifying that objections must be posted in time to reach Wellington by the Ist March. As many of these notices are only just being delivered from the Post-office it is utterly impossible that objections can be lodged complying with the Commissioner's condition. Mr Swanson, M.H.R., has brought the matter under the notice of the Hon. Mr Rolleston. The Presbyterian Church Assembly closed yesterday. The next session is to be held in Wellington.
