The local agent of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company has received from the London office of the company the following telegram, under elate the"'2oth instant:—The wool sales opened at the level of last sales on the 20th instant. The sales comprise about 280,000 bales. Up to date 31,000 bales have been sent to the manufacturing districts direct. The opening catalogue contained 6000 bales, but it was not a representative one. Competition by both Home and foreign buyers is active. There is moderate competition on French account.
