[by telegraph.] Dunedin, Wednesday. The weather was magnificent, and the attendance numbered between 8000 and 10,000 persons. The Cup produced a great boil over, the winner turning up in Adamant—by Traducer out of Ada —a horse which has been run in local races for some years, and has twice or thrice previously competed for this Cup. The totalisators paid a dividend of £60 to £1 on his victory. The Poet (7st 71b), Sir Garnet (6st 71b), and The Jilt (ost 71b) also ran. Welcome Jack was the favorite at 2to 1. The field was despatched to a grand start, the Jilt and Adamant getting away with the lead. The former fell back after traversing half the distance, but Adamant maintained his position despite the vigorous efforts made by Salvage, who was beaten by a short head. King Quail was a good third. Time, 3 mins. 51 sees. The totalisators paid an exceedingly large dividend, aud Mr Fleming's victory was very popular. Adamant won after a tremendous race with Salvage by three-quarters of a length.
