RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
This Day.
(Before Captain Preece, R.M.) DHUNKENNESS. John Bull, a negro, charged with been drunk at the Spit yesterday, pleaded guilty, and was fined 5s and costs. William Harper, charged with having been drunk while in charge of a horse and yesterday, pleaded guilty, and expressed regret at his behaviour. William Clements was called as a witness, and said he saw i the prisoner in the White road yesterday seated in a spring traj). Prisoner was >k drunk, and was lashing his horse, causing it to gallop furiously, to the danger of pedestrians. After considerable trouble the horse was captured, and Constable Forster took Harper into custody. A fine of £1 and costs was inflicted, with witness's expenses, os, and stabling charge Is 6d. Tho amount was paid. CIVIL CASE. The only civil case on the list was the oft-adjourned action IToggard v. Smith and Walker, which Avas further adjourned for four weeks on the application of plaintiff's solicitor, Mr Lee. His Worship remarked that he commenced to entertain doubts if such a man as Hoggard had any existence. Mr Lee said that all the parties to the suit were at present in the Waikato, but Avould very shortly be doAvn here.
