Despite the fact that Germany, Austria, and Italy have expressed their concurrence Avith the j.roposals of England for the neutralisation of the Suez canal, the Porte still expresses its strong opposition to the arrangement. Later intelligence respecting the effects of the recent gale in the northern and Avestern counties of England sho .v. that the loss of life and the destruction of property ha\'c been very severe. The Aveather is still very threatening, and a repetition of the late storms is much feared.
The Alarquin of Lome i.s still staying in the United States, though he is expected to return to London shortly. Last .veck he A'isitcd AVashiugton, and was present at oue sitting of Congress. The tariff .vas under discussion at the time, and the principal speakers Avarmly eulogised the protective policy of the country. Further disclosures have been made to the Irish jiolicc by informers who fear arrest. From these statements it Avould appear that no less than four attempts Averc made on the life of Air Forster AA'hile that gentleman occupied the office of Chief Secretary. It is asserted that tho -would-be assassins were identical AA-ith tho actual perpetrators of the Phoenix Park murders, and should this prove to be the case the public hope shortly to have the assassins of Lord Cavendish and Air Burke in custody.
Great excitement has been caused amongst the inhabitants of Castlereagh, Roscommon, Ireland, by the occurreuoo of a moving bogadjoining the parish of Boslick.
