COWARDLY AND BRUTAL ASSAULT.

Yesterday Mr Bruce, a blacksmith at Rakaia, had occasion to discharge one of his men for some fault, and in revenge, apparently, the latter waited till the other workmen had gone to dinner, and then struck Mr Bruce on the head several times with a sixteen-iiich horse rasp. Bruce was rendered quite unconscious, and now lies in considerable danger. The police arc endeavoring to find the man, whoso name is Armstrong.
