Mr Brycc leaves Wellington to-day for the West Coast of this island. He Avill inspect tho \-arious Constabulary posts along the coast, and after a short stay in Taranaki will proceed to KaAvhia for the purpose of making the needful arrangements in connection Avith the opening of KaAvhia harbor. Mr Rolleston is expected to return from the South next Aveek, and -will then go up to KaAvhia and join Mr Bryce there. The Premier will A-isit tho South as soon as he can coirveniontly leave the seat of government. The Agent-General has cabled that at the last moment he had found it necessary to make a material alteration in the draft contract for the direct steam service to Ncav Zealand, and was therefore unable to forward a copy by the outgoing mail as he had [intended. Iv consequence of the alteration he has been "compelled to extend the time for the receipt of tenders until the 30th of April next. A copy of the contract as amended Avill be sent to Ncav Zealand as early as possible, and Avill be in plenty of time for colonial tenderers.
