WELLINGTON.
This day. The mail steamer with the December English mails, left 'Frisco for Auckland on the 10th instant, three days later than the time table date. The steamer City of New York, with the January colonial mails, arrived at 'Frisco from Auckland on the 22nd instant, three days early. All the papers iv connection with the Loughurst case are now ready, and the whole question will be considered by the Government on the return of Major Atkinson and Air Rollc-ston to AVellington. An unoccupied cottage near Feathcrston was destroyed by fire on Monday. The origin is attributed to a bush fire. While out rabbit-shooting at Kaikoura on Monday last, Drill-Instructor Hyde, of AVellington, had his left hand injured by the bursting of his gun, necessitating the amputation of one finger.
